We first make sure the foot and ankle is adjusted and moving properly before attempting to cast the foot. We then position the foot in the “maximum arch supination” posture; meaning, the foot is placed into a corrected position while casting the foot, to build an orthotic support for the healthy foot, rather than the pathological (unhealthy) foot. This results in a much different type of orthotic.
